Credit cards can be a good thing to have in one’s wallet. They help build one’s credit rating, some offer cash back or other incentives, and generally speaking, they are safer to carry than cash. While these are all great benefits, having access to a credit card also allows people to spend more than they can pay off at the end of every month. This is why for many Illinois residents, their credit card debt keeps increasing.
According to a survey by GOBankingRates, the average American has roughly $7,000 in credit card debt. Doesn’t seem to bad, right? As a collective whole, Americans owe approximately $1 trillion to credit card companies. It is a lot when it is all added up together, and it can take years for the average person to pay down. What are people putting on credit cards to put themselves so far into debt?
Everyone uses credit cards for different reasons. For some it is a way to get the wedding that they always wanted. Others do it to keep up with the Joneses. There are those who need it due to job loss, medical problems or other emergencies. The list is really endless.
At the end of the day, it does not matter how or why one may find him or herself with credit card debt. What matters is what one is going to do to resolve the situation. There are those who, with adhering to a strict budget, will be able to fix the problem on their own, and there are others who may need to take more extreme measures. A skilled bankruptcy law attorney can assist those in Illinois who are unable to resolve their debt issues on their own in finding the best solution for their needs.
